Almut is a choreographic work by Paul Behren about the life of his grandmother Almut Wolf, née Pauly (1917–1996), who survived National Socialism in Hamburg. Starting from her autobiographical sketch, from personal photographs and from places in Hamburg connected to her life, the piece opens a dialogue between past and present.
The dancer Alessia Marra represents both her own body and, as a stand-in, that of Almut. Postures taken from portrait photographs are translated into slow movements and still images, then developed through repetition, variation and improvisation. Recordings of sounds, voices and surroundings at places where Almut lived and worked form the basis of abstract soundscapes. //
